  • What is your degree and field of study?
    • PHD. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Will you be on campus for both the following Fall and Spring Semesters?
    • Yes
  • In your words, what is the purpose of ISA and the role it should play in supporting international students at UMaine?
    • I expect ISA to promote the distinct elements of diverse cultural backgrounds of international students at UMaine by providing opportunities to gather, meet, and share experiences with the community at both academic and social levels.
  • What are your top 3 goals for ISA in the upcoming school year?
    • I have observed through past year that ISA has developed their main events, such as Culturefest, well enough. So, I believe it is the time to explore and develop new events by giving all students the opportunity to present and develop their ideas. I also expect ISA to encourage more students to get involved in each event by providing an open and competitive atmosphere for them to show their abilities in different fields.
  • Describe a successful program that you have been involved with. Why was it a success?  What role did you play in the event organizing that helped it to succeed?
    • I have been involved in numerous educational and promotional events since my undergrad studies. As the executive manager of “Student Association of Mechanical Engineering”, I was responsible for organizing and holding national events, competitions, and festivals at FUM, Iran. We also initiated several research/industrial projects involving teams with more than 30 grad and undergrad members. Due to these activities, we were awarded as “Iran’s Best Student Associations of the Year” and “Iran’s Best Student Associations of the Year in Research Activities” in 2009 and 2010. I have learned From these experiences that as long as you enjoy what you are doing, you will find a way to make it a success!
  • What relevant leadership positions have you held at UMaine or at other institutions?
    • I have had the chance to work at various positions in several volunteer/professional organizations, such as:
      – Executive Manager, Scientific Student Association of Mechanical Engineering, FUM, Iran (2009-2011)
      – Co-Founder, Scientific Student Association of Aerospace Engineering, FUM, Iran (2011)
      – Co-Founder and Human Resources Manager, Ferdowsi Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (2014-2017)
      – Co-Founder and International Communication Manager, Ferdowsi StartUp Accelerator (2015-2017)

  • What leadership positions will you hold in other campus organizations during the up coming school year?
    • Being the Grad Advisor of ISA is my start for getting involved in leadership positions at campus activities. I have also volunteered in organizing TEDx event at UMaine in Fall 2018. I am eagerly looking for these kinds of opportunities every day.
  • What qualities do you possess which make you uniquely qualified for the officer position that you are running for?
    • As I have been through the path that new ISA committee members may go through, I am really interested in sharing my experiences with them so that we can discover new horizons together. Also, as a co-founder of a Startup Accelerator, I have worked side-by-side with entrepreneurs, investors, and startup groups where I truly learned how to activate the capacity of novel ideas and potential talents.
  • What else would you like voters to know about you?
    • I love adventures in any form. I am also obsessed with novel ideas. If you think you have one, find me asap; you won’t find anyone more interested!
